Does anyone know where I can shoot my gun in Murfreesboro? I am new to the area. I don't really want a shooting range, I'm just looking to do some plinking, and maybe shoot some boxes and things. Just room to mess around. Does anyone know what the gun laws are around here?

Where can I shoot ??

Thanks.

On Target

I've been meaning to get a license and buy a handgun.

If you go let me know how the place is. I've heard good things. The local 'zine often has a coupon for the place. Not sure what it's for though.

Thanks, Mike. I have been by that place. They do seem very nice, and offer great services. Problem is, I'm looking to shoot long rifles and shotguns. Not really best for me to use a range. Do you know what the laws are about just driving out to the country to shoot? Are there any? Can I just find an open field?

I wouldn't suggest doing that. It would not only be rude, I believe it's illegal (I know you have to have permission to hunt on someone's property whether it's marked No Hunting or not).

Give it a little time and maybe you'll meet someone who has some property out in the country and will let you shoot there.

You might contact the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency (TWRA) and see if they can help. They sponsor all sorts of hunter/shooter events.

Sorry I didn't read you entire post or I would have known you needed an outdoor facility.

Definitely don't just pull up to a field and shoot.

There is an outdoor range somewhere in Rutherford County because DNJ ran a few articles on it last year. Something about trying to close it or something because of where it's at IIRC.

If you're outside city limits, have the permission of the landowner and are a certian distance away from any existing occupied buildings, it's perfectly fine to shoot outdoors. I grew up plinking right in my backyard, but now that the area is developed with a subdivision butted up rightnext to my back field, I've been hesitant to do so.

There is an outdoor range in Antioch right near the lake. I was told they have a 1000 yard rifle range. We're usually shooting handguns so we go the the indoor ranges. I just picked up an AR10 so I'll probably check out the rifle range on Friday. It is run by the TN Wildlife Resources Agency. The address is...

2618 Hobson Pike
Antioch, TN 37013

I'd be careful about shooting close to city limits. Many towns don't allow firearms discharge inside city/town limits. The gun laws here are pretty relaxed, but they will take you down for breaking any of them.
