Hi everyone, I am a recent college grad that just got hired at Dell and will be moving to Nashville very soon. Im not necessarily financially ready for a move but feel as if I need to take this opportunity and get away from Mississippi ASAP. I have been looking at apartments in the area and although I see some cheap ones I dont think I want to commit to anything long term by signing a 12 month lease so I am thinking of subleasing one of these all expenses paid college apts(rent, furnished and all utilities) similar to what i stay in now in the Boro until i can get on my feet and get something i really want closer to work. So my question is would this commute be in the 15-30 min range which i can do or the 45-60 min range which is a little much for a small town guy that hasnt really dealt with traffic before. Is traffic bad in the area? Or do you have suggestions of some near by areas that arent expensive......any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I live right by 24 and it takes me 30-35 min to get into the ariport. If you are further from the hwy, of course, you have to add that time to your drive.

Depends on what your working hours are. If they are typical 8am-5pm, I would not recommend Murfreesboro. Traffic on I-24 is not good during rush hour, which is 7-9am and 4-7pm. My husband and I also worked in the airport area and lived in Lavergne, which is closer to the airport than Murfreesboro, and the commute was an hour to work and an hour from work. We ended up moving to Hermitage and LOVE it. Commute time during rush hour from Hermitage to airport area is around 15 minutes morning and afternoon. There are also plenty of back roads you can take from Hermitage to Dell, so if there is a wreck on the interstate (I-40), the commute is still painless. In summary, I would count M'boro out and would recommend Donelson/Hermitage area.

Thanks for the replies, and judging from the answers it looks like i will be looking a little closer to Nashville because it will be an 8-5 thing and dont want to deal with traffic for and hour each way. And this is the second time someone has mentioned Hermitage to me so I guess i'll start looking around there a little more and see what i can find.

you can look for a at least 45 minute drive..with no traffic.. i used to live in murfreesboro and commute to that area..not only did it take longer than most to get home, but the money that i thought i was saving by staying in a college apartment in murfreesboro i was using in gas...i would have to fill up 2x a week and my car gets good gas mileage. my advice is to look into moving to antioch/murfreesboro rd area..its right by Dell and the apartments that way are affordable. i am saving more money staying in antioch than i did in my college apt in the boro...go figure

My son said it is 25-30 min from his aPT, but he is right by the interstate, tack on 15 min , because that is what it takes to get from my sons apt to my daughters college apt.

I would avoid Antioch as the last poster suggested. You may try Donelson or Hermitage which is in that area. Also, there are Apts of Edmonson Pk and Old Hickory Blvd.
This one rents for about $510 a month for a 1 bedroom, its not fancy but liveable and the area is Nipers Corner so safe, The website says it starts at $490 Bradford Woods
This is commuteable to Dell

I moved to Nashville about 1 1/2 years ago and live in Hermitage (our SF company opened an office, I moved up from Atlanta where I had been working remotely).

I've lived in an APT complex by Percy Priest lake and found it very affordable and nice.

We have quite a few people in our office (grown from 30 to 200 since last March), and at least a dozen of them make the jump from the 'Boro to our Hermitage office every day.

Its super convenient to live here in Hermitage and pretty safe too. The Percy Priest side of 40 Hermitage, that is.

What do you all think of Hermitage? We're thinking of buying a home and leavin our APT complex, and we've found some great places right here in Hermitage (Percy Priest side of 40 Hermitage).

Yeah thats what I was thinking after hearing I would be driving an hour each way every day because my car doesn't get the best gas mileage. If you don't mind me asking what apts in Antioch would you(or anyone) suggest. I know that Antioch has is not the cleanest, safest area in town but there has to be some descent places around there for a 25 year old male to start with. My dad lives in an area of memphis that most would consider undesirable and i made it there so I'm sure living in antioch wouldn't be a problem for me until I can get on my feet. Honestly as long as I can make it to work in under 30 minutes and can get a decently priced, clean apt I dont care what part of Nashville its in.

There is nothing in Antioch I would remotely recommend. Your personal safety would be greatly compromised. Search elsewhere. I would take Madison over Antioch.
