I currently live in Memphis, but I've had my mind set on moving to Nashville since before I took my current job in Memphis about a year and a half ago. While I'm not hardcore job searching just yet, I am looking a few times a week to see if anything "pops" out at me. I'm content at my job for now, but I am dead set on not living in Memphis forever.

I'm worried that my biggest obstacle in finding a job is the fact that I am in Memphis and not in town. Is that a problem for people looking to move?

If it helps, I work in advertising, but looking for jobs in communications, public affairs, marketing, PR and advertising, so I'm pretty wide open. And I'm incredibly interested in the health field and am considering getting my masters in health promotion, public health, or something along those lines(once I get out of Memphis!)

I happen to have done the exact same thing. I moved to Memphis in the summer of 2007 and after about 6 months started my escape plan and relocated for my new job to Nashville/Franklin in July 2008.

It wasn't that hard since the preliminary job hunt work is mostly done via email/phone calls. Then I had to make a trip up here for an interview, that was about it.

It would be harder if you were 3 states away, rather than 3 hours. Good Luck!

Thanks! I have relatives in Franklin who work in Nashville, and my dad knows some people through banking. I'm hoping I can work some connections.

Nice to know someone else understands the need to GET OUT. I have a good job--it was a good enough opportunity for me to make the decision to actually move here.
