I can't watch the video right now, but I read the first page of FB comments, and OMG there are some naiive romantics out there. And I used to be one, before we bought property in the Rocky Mts in the middle of wolf territory. The first time we were sitting around our camp fire and heard the wolves howl under the starry sky was a moment I'll never forget. I love wolves--I love their looks, their intelligence, their family structure, their survival skills. BUT...it wasn't until we met our neighbors who could enlighten us about the downside of being in wolf territory that we began to understand the deep animosity toward the new wolf packs in the reintroduction areas. They are not cuddly. They are not peaceful proto-environmentalists. They are not what human families ought to be like. They are not nature's perfect machine for culling the sick animals and making herds healthier. They are nature's perfect predators, and they will kill livestock and pets. I still admire them, and I still think it is cool that there are wolves in the mountains, but I have a healthy respect for them now, and we don't let our dog out of our sight anymore when we're in Wolfland...
Thanks for posting this. I haven't watched the video but I ordered the book. I have L. David Mech's book on Wolves so I'm pleased to find another good book on them.
Clark Fork, thanks for sharing your first-hand perspective. While I support their reintroduction into the wild, I understand it comes with a price.

I like having wolves around. We were never without them. But what we did have, was not very similar to the invasive species that was introduced.
