In some parts of the U. S., such as the Northeast and in the South, the coyote populations have some hybrid ancestry with grey or red wolves and tend to be larger. This hybridization has almost eliminated the red wolf from its range in the South.
There's a good reason why we're getting reports of odd looking coyote. We're watching evolution in progress.
"Coyotes in the Northeast are mostly (60%-84%) coyote, with lesser amounts of wolf (8%-25%) and dog (8%-11%). Start moving south or east and this mixture slowly changes. Virginia animals average more dog than wolf (85%:2%:13% coyote:wolf:dog) while coyotes from the Deep South had just a dash of wolf and dog genes mixed in (91%:4%:5% coyote:wolf:dog). Tests show that there are no animals that are just coyote and wolf (that is, a coywolf), and some eastern coyotes that have almost no wolf at all."
I see coyotes almost every day and the OP's picture looks like it might be a hybrid of coyote and a dog of some sort. The appearance almost makes me think of an old-world Jackal because of the ears and the tail. Probably a Chupacabra.

In the second picture in the OP, I think I can see a place at the base of the neck where a collar has worn down fur.
We have lots of coyotes in our area, and if I caught those images on our game cam, I'm not sure I'd think that was a coyote. Doesn't look like the ones around here.
I think the picture in the OP is of a cross breed. Coyote x well muscled short haired dog. It has close to a coyote's bushy tail but the rest of its coat is far too short and smooth for a coyote. It has none of the long fluffy fur fringes and distinctive color patterns found elsewhere on the body and face that would be typical of coyote or wolf. The strong chest and thick neck muscles are also too broad and prominent for a typically slender, slinky coyote build.
