I saw some sort animal in my backyard, and I asked my neighbor's wife:

"I saw an animal in the backyard, I think it's a golpher."
"Is he fat?"
"Yes."
"That's a woodchuck."

Woodchuck is another name for a groundhog. Also known in some areas as a 'whistlepig'.

Yup, woodchuck = groundhog.

Can you say this really fast five times?

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Aren't they also called marmots depending on the part of the country or is that a different species?

There are many different species of marmots. Woodchucks are a species of lowland marmot that's found primarily in the eastern half of North America. The western part of the country has other species.

I have heard that, but mine are too fat, lazy and well-fed to climb trees. LOL I have a couple that have learned how to hoist themselves up into a bird bath converted to a bird feeder. It's about 2.5 feet high. Once in the feeder, they gorge themselves. And then knock over the feeder as they dismount.
