These pictures were taken by a KTBS helicopter flying over Lake Thomas, Winter Haven, Florida.

The helicopter pilot and the game wardens on the ground were in communication via 2-way radios.

Here is a transcript of their conversation.

‘Air1, have you a visual on the gator, Over’

‘Approaching inlet now, Over’

‘Roger Air1’

‘Gator sighted. Looks like it has a small animal in its mouth….moving in, over’

‘Roger Air1’

‘Oh Crap it’s a Deer!’

‘Confirm Air1.. Did you say Deer?, Over’

‘Roger………a Deer in it’s mouth….looks like a full sized buck….that’s a big gator, boys. We’re gonna need more men, Over’

‘Roger Air1…..can you give me a idea on size of animal, over’

‘Its a big one…..25 feet at least, please advise, gator is heading to inlet….do I pursue?, over’

KTBS?

One wonders what a local news station Shreveport, Louisiana, was doing flying a helicopter down in Florida?

Well, in fact... they weren't.

This story is ancient, dating back well over a decade. And the alligator swimming with a deer was in a Georgia (not Florida or Louisiana) federal wildlife refuge. I have no idea where or when your second photo comes from, but it's not the same alligator - killing the animal would kinda defeat the purpose of a wildlife refuge, no?

Gatorade

The story the OP linked to is from 2010.

The comments indicate the story is mere fabrication, perpetrated by...Snopes. lol.

No, it's much older than that.

Try actually reading what Snopes has to say about it, rather than believing internet comments.

Here:
FACT CHECK: Gatorade

Snopes merely confirmed that the photos of the swimming alligator are genuine, while debunking the erroneous 'facts' in the various versions of the story. Snopes links to the USFW source of the photos of the swimming alligator, which was not killed (again, why some people are so gullible as to believe that state wildlife officials would kill a protected species in a federal wildlife refuge is beyond me). The photos of the dead alligator are of a different animal.
