I've always been suspicious that every single outcome of climate change is predicted to be bad. Really? Winter kills a LOT of cold climate animals every year. You'd think at least one of them would benefit from a few degrees increase... Like the penguins who have to hold the eggs on their feet. Tell me they wouldn't appreciate a few degrees!
National Post's title is deceptive and the article tells an ugly truth about careless humans. That article about what's happening in Barrow, Alaska has no relation to climate change and its effect on the health of all polar bears throughout all of the Arctic. It's really only about the human impact and damage caused to habitat and wildlife in Barrow.
Barrow is just one tiny location on the Arctic shorelines and the story speaks volumes about the lazy slovenliness of the whale hunters there and the consequences to the town because of their slovenliness.
Anyone who knows anything about bears can tell you that if you always leave huge piles of cast off meat, blubber, organs and bones lying around in one place it's going to attract bears and cause them to become habituated to man, dependent on man's garbage as a source of food and invasive and dangerous to the human community.
If the people there are having problems with the bears they've invited and habituated they have nobody but themselves to blame for it and they need to get with the program and clean up their act.
"The chief threat to the polar bear is the loss of sea ice...It is on the Arctic ice that the polar bear
makes its living, which is why global warming is such a serious threat to its well-being. The US
Geological Survey projects that two thirds of polar bears will disappear by 2050." Global Warming and Polar Bears - National Wildlife Federation
The scientific community has been collecting data that the earth's temperature has increased
by 2 degrees F for 150 years. This is 150 years of collective research, data and most importantly-
evidence.
