Hi! We are a homeschooling family of 4, my husband has been offered a relocation package to Omaha and we would like to find out about NE. We currently live in Fl, we have always lived here. We are trying to find out the best areas for housing and what fun things there are to do in NE.

Thanks, all suggestions & comments are welcome!! : )

I live in Lincoln and am not overly familiar with the neighborhoods of Omaha, so hopefully someone who is will comment.

As for fun things to do in Nebraska, it depends on what you like or want to try. Nebraska has hunting and fishing opportunities. Omaha has the Qwest center that holds concerts, rodeos, etc... Gambling is illegal in Nebraska so most go across the river to Council Bluffs, IA to Ameristar or Harrah's Casino. Omaha has the Henry Doorly Zoo. Home | Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo The zoo also has an IMAX theatre that offers educational shows, some in 3D. Omaha recently got involved in a football league that has former NFL players. UFL I think. I dont know about Omaha but Lincoln gets nuts during Husker football games and the season. Since Nebraska doesnt have a pro team for any sport, the pride lies in Husker football. Omaha has the Omaha Royals, a minor league of the KC Royals baseball team. Other than that all I know of are a few museums and city parks. Omaha does have a nice Old Market area. Has several shops, bar, restaurants, etc..

Nebraska is a pretty boring state. Have lived here the last 25+ yrs. No mountains, desert, or ocean. Its a flat state that grows lots and lots of corn and raises cattle.

As for coming here from Florida, the summer humidity shouldnt bother you. July and August get 90-100% humidity with the temps the same or higher. I wouldnt worry too much about tornados (about our only natural disaster) Our winters will be a shock for you. Depending on the year it can be very mild or like this last winter that lasted 6 months (if you count from date of first storm to the last). Generally from this time of year until March is a gamble. Nebraska does get snow and ice. Make sure your vehicle has good tires and is prepared for below 0 weather.
