Sorry I know there are a couple Sidney threads already, but most are from 2005-2008 and being 2012 I thought I would just start a new one and pray that someone out there will give me some more recent information!

My boyfriend and I are moving from Omaha to Sidney as he has received a new job out there. I am not slightly worried about small town life, actually really looking forward to it, I am HUGE on animals and animal rescue and I am really excited to be in a more country community. I do have family in Falls City and have spent a decent amount of time there, so I do have a kinda good idea what we are getting into.

My major concern seems to be housing. Are there any rentals? We cannot have a condo as we have 4 dogs and 2 cats and thus need a house. I haven't been able to find a single rental as of today. We are going to speak w/ a realtor and head out there to take a look this week, but any information in advance would be helpful.

Is there an animal shelter out there?
Who takes care of the social service work out there?
Does the city sponsor any summer camps etc. for children in the area?

I have a masters degree in Sports Administration and I was hoping to go in the direction of a non profit having to do w/ recreational programs for children, but obviously in Sidney those chances are slim to none. I also have a solid amount of experience in social work and childcare so I was just wondering what the options are out there I cannot seem to really locate any.

In past threads ppl have mentioned there is no real bad part of town vs. a good part, is that still the case?
Is there a historical neighborhood?

Thank you so much for any advice or info that you can provide!!!

I am not sure if this got bumped or not, but I have likewise been tapped for some offers with the obvious big box store there. As such, I want to know more as the interview process is moving forward.

There is a lot 2008 data on this site, but I am checking on new info, too.

The local newspaper website lacks and is always half down, and having lived in NYC, New Orleans all the way down to towns of 30,000 and less the amount of population is not as concerning to me as is the ability to find downtown properties in the historic downtown. I am accustomed to loft living, and even in small towns, I always lived in the upstairs of main street downtown shops (lowest loft rates, ever, if I may add, in small towns - usually discounted as long as I "keep an eye out for ne'er do wells").

I already checked my racing commission license, that transfers to Nebraska (I usually co-own horses) so now it's just a daily life issue there. Anyone know about Sidney's small-town downtown buildings?
