Dear all

I have always lived the Midwest and I have accepted
Job offer from UNL. How safe is Lincoln for a single, working woman who prefers to live in a single family home?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Generally very safe. It does somewhat depend on the area. I've lived in LNK all of my 50 years, and very rarely if ever have I felt unsafe. However, having said that, property crime does occur. Generally not recommended to leave garage doors open (or doors unlocked) when you aren't around, no matter the neighborhood. Feel free to PM me if you want more input about particular parts of the city. Good luck with your move/new position.

I currently have several female single friends in Lincoln, NE. Very safe, lots of groups to meet with and enjoy travel / events / volunteering together.

Be flexible for interests and meeting friends.

As my late uncle said from Hospice (in Lincoln). "There is no place better than Nebraska to live! Why do people need all these other exotic places?"

Disclaimer: I left NE in 1959 for Colorado and other 'Exotic' places, but have been to Lincoln / across NE 5x so far this yr.

Know your Neighborhood, there are many very nice and affordable neighborhoods within a safe walk / bicycle to UNL.
Get a lot of exercise so you can spend more time at UNL Ice Cream Store! and the many great places to eat within 20 minutes. Don't forget the 'classic' local small town taverns. I used to schedule my flights through Lincoln, so I could go get a Prime Rib dinner at Malcolm, NE tavern (no longer doing Prime Rib Boo, hoo).

There are also nice small towns near Lincoln for quiet living. Seward has a small private college, so some relatives live near there. Milford, similar.

Of course, venture out to Pioneer Village (Minden) on a weekend for a taste / education in being Nebraskan. It is about the only place in USA with a dog powered washing machine on display. (tread mill). And so much more. I also like weekend trips to central Kansas (Sandstone buildings / fenceposts...), and up to Sandhills (Valentine) and into Black Hills SD. Wind Cave.../ Badlands...

I live just North of Lincoln and make it into Lincoln at a minimum of ounce a month. For four years I worked in Lincoln. My only gripes with Lincoln are the drivers, because Lincoln has the university there a lot of the drivers are from all over the US and internationally. These students drive like the drivers in larger metro areas. I'm always on high alert for drivers pulling out in front of me or drivers running stop signs, etc.

I've never had these problems with Omaha traffic.

Over all crime in Lincoln is slight and a reasonably safe.
