Not enough trees? You mean in the corn fields? Trees a'plenty in the residential areas that aren't brand new.

Nearly all trees in Omaha metro area are planted away from any area close to the Missouri River. That is much different compared to areas further to the east where everything is built around trees, or trees grow back in at very fast rates in a cleared area.
Omaha has much more of a Great Plains open feel compared to Kansas City that has far greater tree coverage.

Agreed! And even when the temperature is good, the huge, sudden THUNDERSTORMS are like nothing I've ever experienced. The shift in barometric pressure is so severe and sudden, you'll be stricken with headaches like you've never had - headaches which last for hours, and leave you almost unable to move.

I'm from Mississippi, where, at any given moment, there is generally a tornado somewhere in the state. But Nebraska thunderstorms make Mississippi tornadoes look puny.

While you are correcting things, the most serious error you made is the use of that "seen" in the thread title. It should be "saw." Just trying to help.
