Hi all,
I've been a New Yorker my entire life. To say I'm disgusted with this state would be such an understatement.
Is there anywhere in Nebraska that would be a good place to visit to get a sense of what life there would be like. I like small town life... I can not picture me spending the rest of my life in NY. My husband is actually thinking of working two full time jobs just to buy a house here. I wouldn't even dream of ever having a kid and letting him/her grow up in Queens.

Thanks

I am proud of you supporting your man to do what is necessary to afford what your family needs.

No family it is just myself, my husband, and the dogs...
I work as well. No one should have to work 80+ hours a week just to live.

I'd say Omaha. It's not at all a small town but I don't know if you're really sure what you're asking for.

What type of small town are you looking into? we have a lot of different types. There are the ones in the Sandhills which are very scenic in the northern and central part of the state, the ones surrounded by flat land and farms but have larger cities nearby in the Eastern parts of the state, the ones in the panhandle that are dry with little humidity but larger cities are farther away, and the extremely rural southern parts.

Gen what kind of job skills do you or your husband have? That is going to make a big difference in where you will want to live in Nebraska.

I am currently in the accounting field but have pretty much done it all as far as workwise. I would like to finish college and become an RN. My husband is an officer.
By small town I meant with out the hustle and bustle of the big city and all the "trash" that goes along with it. Not such a rural area, we both drive so being is the center of it all is not an issue at all. I'm 32, he's 35 and neither of us can fathom spending the rest of our lives here. I work 6 miles from where I live, that six miles takes me about an hour no matter wich route I pick. It is enough to cause a stroke..
Thank you all for your answers...

Well if you're an RN you'd be better off in Omaha jobwise. We have two major medical schools here and all of the hospitals are going through major expansion. For your husband he could get a job with any of the metro law enforcement agencies. Or do you mean army officer?

Traffic here is a breeze compared to what you deal with. Omaha won't be stiffling like NYC, but you won't have to be out in the middle of nowhere either.

Thanks DTO no not an army officer...
I was in the beginnings of becomming a court officer here but I really had to sit down and think that is another 30 years in NYC. I really don't think I can handle it.

Grand Island is a great place, small town feeling but large enough to have a few things to do. There is Central Community College and the Doane Campus where you can finish your degree, and at this time I believe they are taking applications for police officers for the City of Grand Island.
I live 4 miles from work, it takes me 9 minutes to get here, "If I don't have to wait for the turkeys to cross the road".
It is also close enough to Lincoln and Omaha if you want to get away for the weekend and take in a few shows.
