Share what your feelings are about Lincoln's stoplights. Any complaints or compliments? Also, Does anyone know how many stop lights are in Lincoln?

The first time I drove in Lincoln I about wrecked. I was coming off of I-180 into Downtown and at the first stop light I about wrecked. The light turned yellow and there was one car in front of me. Being from Omaha everyone runs the lights so I went to gun it. Everyone in front of me stop and I didn't expect it. It was kind of unbelievable.

well I'm glad you didn't wreck. Are you saying people from Lincoln are better or worse drivers than those from Omaha?

It seems that the stoplights in Lincoln are typical for a city its size. I've never noticed a problem with them. There are some newly develop areas in Lincoln that desperately need stoplights put in, but give them time and it'll get done.

As far as the number of lights in Lincoln, I couldn't honestly say. However, I would bet its in the thousands...or at least the upper hundreds.

DTO Luv, this part of the highway system in Nebraska that you are talking about has to be one of the worse examples of highway planning that you can see. This is a very dangerous intersection and I am glad that you did not have an accident as well.

Lincoln in general is the worst example of road planning. I am from Omaha and highly dislike driving in Lincoln. It is extremely ineffecient to drive anywhere in this city because there are no highways or interstates going through it. You end up driving 35 mph and hitting a stoplight every 3 blocks. Also, a few lights (i.e. 27th and Superior) have an odd order to them. You expect for the left-turn arrows to go on first, and then the regular green lights, but sometimes it's backwards, meaning that you wait forever to be able to turn left. Also, along Cornhusker, it is extremely annoying that all the stoplights have red left turn arrows. It's not a safety issue--you can see at least half a mile down the road to see if a car is coming. I can't tell you how many times I have sat there waiting for the green arrow even though there's not a single car coming from the opposite direction. In general, I hate that I can drive anywhere in Omaha in 25 minutes, and it takes just as long or longer to get across Lincoln, even though it's half the size. And don't even get me started on plowing in the winter....
