Please. I live Downtown. I live in what some would consider the "bad" part of Downtown and it's still not bad. I walk to and from my job from Downtown to Midtown and back and don't have problems. I also walk to the other end of Downtown for my part time job and don't have any problems. There's always people out. I also live in what is probably the most concentrated areas of gays in the city (being one myself) and it's FAR from being a den of inequity.

If Downtown was so unsafe I doubt people would be buying the condos down here for $250,000 to over $1,000,000. That doesn't include the price of an armed guard either. When I'm out walking I see people pushing there kids in strollers, walking does, eating lunch outside at restaurants. I even see vulnerable young women running around alone. (GASP!) They must be trying to outrun the whores and winos.

There isn't any part of Omaha I would feel unsafe being in. Random crime is very low.

If any of you are interested in seeing what DT Omaha looks like check out my ongoing photo thread here in the Omaha section.

No, it wouldn't be better. I have no problem with people being critical of Omaha when its done in a polite way! But referencing whores, whinos, and gays is just ridiculous and immature!

The irony is that this thread started by you asking why do people look down at people who live in rural areas. Well, I would look down at anyone who suggested that having gays in the city made it a bad place to live.

Have you really been in downtown Omaha?? You can find prostitutes and drunks in any city in America for crying out loud. And what gay bars has anything to do with what you're talking about is absolutely beyond me!!

What you said is about like someone who grew up in a city saying I would never live in a small town because of all the alcoholic klu klux klan members that live there. And before you get all hot and bothered, keep in mind I grew up in a town of about 150 people. I don't feel that way about small towns...I'm making an analogy to what you said.

I thought the casinos were in Iowa. I am opposed to gambling myself, but many people, including some family members, find it enjoyable.
