I was doing research on the SE corner of Nebraska and Falls City, caught my attention. Can someone give me info about the area? Is it a small rural town, what are the main industries in the area? agriculture, manufacturing, etc. Also, I noticed an indian reservation just south of there. What effect does it have on the area? What tribe is it? I currently live in SD where the reservations are not such a good thing. Thanks for any info.

I have spent some time in Falls City, NE. Your better off to stay away front the area.

Bigotry and Racism have taken over years ago. Rulo, NE is not to far away and we all know what happened down there. Not to mention the Tina Brandon story.

Read this article! When bigots tell you hate crimes against Nebraska's GLBT community never happen, remember this incident!!!

You guys are all silly. I've lived in southeast Nebraska for all of my life and we've only had like three hate crimes in the past Lordy knows how many years... The only reason those stories are so well noted is because of the MOVIE. No one but the people living around the area would have even known about Tina Brandon if it hadn't been for the movie...She/He was known to the community, and TWO CRAZY WACKO NUT JOBS chose to kill her, and they don't represent all of us. She was raped, and when she told the cops the guy killed her. Most of the community accepted her; my parents and their friends included. Trust me, their accounts of the story are more reliable than what the media told you. I didn't even know the story until a year ago, and I found out about the Rulo one like three months ago... and obviously crimes like these are noticed because we're SMALL. How many crimes like that have happened in Omaha and Lincoln, or NEW YORK CITY for crying out loud???? You just don't hear about it because they happen three times a week, if not more.

I'm not really that big of a fan of Falls City, but it's not because of any "hate crime" issue or problems with the GLBT community. I'm guessing you'll be able to find at least one incident of a hate crime, or a murder or something in almost all towns that exist.

I'm sorry if some of you have had bad experiences in southeast Nebraska, but I can tell you that I've had to worry more in communities like Lincoln and Omaha, and I've heard a lot more stories of hate crimes on the news in those areas than anywhere else in Nebraska (and for an obvious reason: more population= more crime). Being a tiny, rural, remote town does not mean all the citizens are GLBT haters or racist, and to say that is true based on three stories is absurd, and is deeply offensive to all of us small town citizens.

I'm just saying that you can't base this type of thing off of a few nut jobs.

I lived in Falls City for a year a half. Beautiful area of Nebraska! Loved the old buildings and hills and bluffs....plus the Missouri River! Gorgeous fall leaves!

Yes, Falls City has had some well publicized hate crimes......but, I think things have been relatively calm these past few years....
