Even in your own personal RVs if you are renting space there. Looks like its time for a shut down or boycott. An unaccountable board just decided that no one can smoke outside, inside, in their RVs or anywhere on the property. Crossed them off my list of places to stay, Sure, ban smoking INSIDE but in someone's own personal RV or out in the open air? The heck with that noise.

Or maybe you should just go camp in the desert so people don't have to smell the stench of cigarettes. Other people want to breathe that open air.

Remember that concept of the "majority " ? The vast majority of Americans are non smokers.

Smokers are very much a minority, and that is quite clear.

I'm a former smoker (quit decades ago) so don't mind others smoking around me but it seems the topic here --or the complaint-- is that they are prohibiting smoking inside your own RV. I understand them banning smoking while walking around the park or in their buildings but I question whether they can prohibit people doing something within the confines of their own unit which is their own property. I remember c

Preferred is a membership park that does allow non-members to stay but if I were a member, even though I no longer smoke, I can certainly understand why a member would be upset when they are paying membership dues and the Board arbitrarily makes such a demand (I hear it's just one member on the Board that insists on the new rule). However, it may be difficult to enforce such a rule.

If you're not a member, just don't stay at that park. That seems pretty simple.

But if you're a member, and a smoker, I'd be pissed too as you'd think that they shouldn't be able to change the rules in in which I signed a membership contract that didn't mention my not being able to smoke a cigarette while watching TV inside my own RV. It evidently wasn't voted on by the membership but was an edict handed down by the Board with one board member leading the charge.

On the other side of the argument, I suppose one can still smell the second-hand smoke coming from the RV ventilation system while walking outdoors. But in our experience as RVers, the smell of sewer gas wafting through RV parks at times coming from individual RVs that keep their grey tank valves open is more offensive to us than cigarette smoke.

I'd go with that too. In fact, reading another message board (probably have a clue which one), it appears that it's one of those typical HOA-type controversies where someone thinks one person on the board wants to institute a particular policy and through the rumor-mill, it's misinterpreted or gets inaccurate as the rumor is passed around. One post says that the board purportedly has now sent a letter out to the members saying that it was untrue and that they weren't trying to micro-manage the park.

I'm not sure if we'll ever get proof of anything unless it is from an actual board member posting here ...or any member for that matter.

Or even more than a "1 and done" poster...

"If you're not a member, just don't stay at that park. That seems pretty simple."

I agree. Move out into the desert. Most non-smokers don't want to smell it, though they might be too polite to give you their real opinion. "Reformed Smokers" like myself can sniff a smoker from a mile away. Their breath smells, their hair stinks, their clothes reek of smoke, and their homes are toxic waste dumps of yellow and brown nicotine stains, tars, and "who-knows-what" other smells, on wall coverings, and other painted surfaces. That's why I moved to the outskirts of Pahrump to get clean air. When I was a smoker, I didn't care much about what non-smokers thought. I thought "non-smokers" were just being a pain in the butt. Now I realize the non-smoking side of it. I can't breath during dust storms, inside some casinos, tyrying to breathe dirty air during brush fires from SoCal, and while hanging around groups of people who smoke. I'm not trying to convince anyone, as I'm dying soon from the cost of 35-years of smoking cigs. This fight between the "Chimneys" and the "Breathers" will rage on until The Lord takes us all out of here. In the meantime find your own spot of clean air AND clean water in Pahrump and don't depend on anyone else. 5-acres works well for us.

Shut Down or a boycott? Why shouldn't their company be able to set their own park rules?

Why waste the energy? Stay where you're wanted and welcomed. DOn't bother with someone that doesn't want your business. It's really as simple as that.
