Please help! I believe that a 4-6 hour daily commute is grounds for "quitting" a job and going back on MA unemployment. Do you agree? Problem is, majority of jobs in my field are in Cambridge, MA. (I'm only making 12K more than unemployment after 5K in parking and 6K in gas.)
Start taking the bus. Boston Express to Park St. subway station. Red Line subway to Cambridge and back to South Station. I pay $80 per week for bus fare. That is $4k per year. The savings on gas will be a raise. Try and find work in NH.
TY. Been there, done that. It took 2.5-3 hours each way each day and nearly killed me. Had major abdominal surgery, so cannot use public transportation. No clinical research jobs in NH, few and far between. Ultimately need to move, but not ready.
For 11k (5k parking/6k gas) you can find a room to rent in Cambridge for during the week. Then perhaps you can spend the extra 6 hours each day applying for new jobs closer to home?
If you quit a job, I don't think you are eligible for unemployment...only if you are fired/laid off. You might be able to collect on the job you had before that, depending on how many weeks you had left.
I collected for 7 weeks, so there are many weeks left...I've been nauseous and had no sleep since I started this job 2.5 weeks ago. It is majorly affecting my health in a negative manner.
I'd rather not go into details. Maybe you can google right hemicolectomy.
