Sorry I haven't replied since October. Thanks again everyone for the great responses!!

Well, we are hoping to make the move a reality to NY this summer/fall. We are planning on making another trip in May. Though I would like to see what the state has to offer in all seasons, we did not make it for the snow. On our winter trip this year south, we encountered many NH snowbirds and once again, EXTREMELY nice people to say the least. Some mentioned 'mud' season and 'flies', I would like to hear more about that from all of you city-data posters in the area. Is it bad?

Also, I would like to hear ideas of areas to visit in May. This trip is to get a more narrowed idea of where we would like to settle. Looking for a small to mid-sized town with good school, low crime and plenty to do for a family with kids and pet friendly too. We like the outdoors of course, but also need good activities for the kids. They are into boxing, acting, singing, 4-H, Scouts, etc.

House hunting and looking into the job markets will be among our top priorities in May and hopfully some R&R.

Thanks all again for the comments, and I look forward to hearing more ideas.
