Hi I just graduated from college in Michigan but because there aren't any teaching jobs here, I need to find work elswhere. I was thinking about New Hampshire as a possible spot. I've read about the schools, but can anyone tell me about the job prospects out in NH? I like winter and small towns and outdoor stuff, and think New England would be an overall good place to live.
there are no teaching jobs in Michigan? what's up with that?
your state is a lot larger than this state - I will tell you there is a lot of competition for jobs (it is not unusual to have 300 applicants for one position)
Northern NH has an opening now for an ESE mobility specialist. It's an opening for my daughter to attend school next year. She's blind and they are needing to find a mobility specialist for her who can contract with the school. The teacher they had last year gave one days notice last spring and moved out of state. I think teachers get better pay in NH than some other states also.
the average teacher salary in NH is in the $46K range, but the starting salary is usually much less, more like $27K or thereabouts
there is a shortage of special ed teachers - so you could pretty much guarantee yourself a job in that field, no matter which state you choose to work in
At $56973 for 2005*, Michigan is ranked 4th in the nation for average teachersalary. for the year 2006, they dropped to 5th. still higher than NH
Rumor has it that Londonderry Middle School will have a 6th Grade Social Studies teacher position next year..
