Hope you enjoyed your turkey day. It was just the three of us flatlanders for Turkey day; even though I temp, the company I was employed at gave me a free turkey with the rest of their employees, I was very excited. My sister cancelled b/c she is moving back to Texas after 20+ years up here (she's the one in Milford) and my two cousins I had hoped to reunite with, also moving to Florida. So everyone was packing this holiday. I'm starting to think my timing is way off for family gatherings LOL. Ahh well. I cooked my first turkey-that means I have never actually cooked one before. With MIL being a restaurant owner of past; a chef, and food industry queen; I had to really make her step away and just give me tips, so I could grasp the concept of cooking on my own. I'm not much of a cook, but I was really tested yesterday.
Of course, I started my cooking exercises at 4:30 a.m. with solid black coffee.
That turned into three glasses of wine by 8 a.m. MIL said, "tradition of a good cook is to have wine with your meal; so that means while prepairing it too." SURE! I was feeling just fine and confident.
Next, she said to wash the bird down, and scoop out his ice and gizzards.
I boldly went into the dark and ice cold caverns of a turkey's netheregions.......
Not happily of course.... but with instructions, wine, and encouragement; I rubbed, seasoned, and became quite acquainted with this guy for almost 4 hours while he tanned up nice. He was yummy. I think hubby and Mum in law was very proud and stuffed, through all of the laughing of course! That's what its all about. New adventures! Take care, and enjoy your left overs!!
It seems that you all had a wonderful time! That was very nice of your new
employer to give you a turkey, very kind!
In reference to your family, its interesting right? Oh well, they
probably want a new adventure too, and do not know how HOT Texas
gets , and the cousins moving to Florida, do they know how
HUMID that place is . Oh, well, at the end of the day, your hubby is
your family and that is what matters! Its sad that you will not be able to
enjoy these relatives, but at least you tried to be close....
Stay HAPPY & THANKFUL for having your dreams come true! You are in NH!!
They can always come & visit you!!
Anyway, once again continue to enjoy the THANKSGIVING Holiday!
Take care,
