I gather the cheapest ride via bus is $16 round trip from Exeter if I buy the 10 ride pass now. Is it just me or is this expensive? Seems I could drive for much cheaper, however, the winter driving and wear and tear on my car might not be worth it in the end.
Does anyone have any idea about this? And am I the only one that feels your public transportation is expensive in NH? OK...is it just me????
we have public transportation? LOL only kidding............. I used to take the bus from Concord to Boston all the time and it was $15 way back when. So $16 does not seem out of line to me.
I could not drive to Boston and back on $16 and I have a fairly economical car.
Tootsie, I think the real savings of the T vs. driving is that once you're in town, you need to PAY to park, not cheap, WAY more than $16 if you stay anywhere more than 1 hour...
I used to spend and hour each way commuting by train into London. I switched to a motorcycle for a year or so due to train fare hikes, but went back the train because time waiting on the platform and on the train was useable. You can't read a paper, book or work on a laptop while driving. The only downside I see to the Downeaster is how few trains there are during commuting hours and it's a bit slow (1hr20 for 4 stops/50 miles?). Only a 5pm and 6.20pm Northbound. Miss those and the next/last one is at 11!
Depending on your needs, you might consider driving into Haverhill and picking up the regular "T" into North Station. Would this be for work, or for fun in Boston? There are MANY more departures/arrivals from Hav/Boston via the T than Amtrak's Downeaster, and the drive from Exeter to Haverhill is maybe 35 minutes...
So it is me...okay, I get what you guys are saying.
I forgot about parking in Boston. If is anything like innercity Chicago--where it cost me $25 to park for 1 hr. 15 min. a couple years ago when I ran into an old college I attended to pick up a transcript--uh...don't want to do that again.
Yeah...you guys are right...it isn't too high, I agree. I was just thinking it would be like $5 in gas.
ROFL you must have a really economical car.....similar to Fred Flintstone's
$5 will get you less than 2 gallons - even if you have a car that gets 50 miles to a gallon, you're not going to make it! thanks for the chuckle!
