Anyone know about living in Ossipee? Considering applying for a job there, and I am wondering about the area. Are there a lot of rental homes? How about services and medical care? I drove through Ossipee in October, but didn't spend a lot of time exploring the area. I live in the middle of nowhere in Nevada right now, and do want to be close to services now.

Thank you.

Not many year-round rentals and not many services. Local hospitals would be in Wolfeboro, Laconia and North Conway. If you required serious medical attention, Maine Medical in Portland would be the closest major hospital.

Wolfeboro isn't too far away. Are services and rentals better there?

I doubt they would. These are fairly isolated areas.

It's relative, like most of these questions.

No doubt Ossippee itself is rural, but you're 80 min from Portland and half that to Rochester, or 30 to Conway.

If you're comparing it to Copley Place, it's crazy remote. If you're comparing it to Warm Springs NV, Ossippee is the center of civilization.

Thank you.

There are only 16 jobs in the whole town.

Which one?

I live in Effingham which is a town next to Ossipee. If you really think the job you are applying for is something you would really like go for it. I wouldn't give up with just the information you read on this forum. I think a lot of the people on this forum are from the southern part of the state and don't have a lot of knowledge about this area except driving though on the way up to the mountains. While it may seem rural to someone used to city living it is far from being out in the middle of nowhere. It is about a hour to Portland Maine, 30 minuits to Conway or Rochester. Portsmouth and the seacoast area is about a hour and 15 minuits. The White Mountains are about 45 minuits north. Lake Winnipausakee is 20 minuits away and there are no less than a dozen or so excellent fishing lakes close by. There is a grocery store, a Tractor Supply,2 banks, 2 hardware stores,a half a dozen resturants and a whole lot of peace and quiet. That's actually why a lot of people live here. The biggest downfall that I find about living in this area is the distance I have to travel to work. I work in a trade that does work all over the state, but that's a small price to pay to live in such a nice area. If I can answer any questions for you just let me know.

Excellent summation of area.

But original poster has already given up on this job as stated above.
