I always have a great time during the NH primary season. I like going to listen to the candidates if they are going to appear reasonably close to my home. You can actually have a one-on-one with a famous person.
I like to talk to the journalists and their tech people. I have been interviewed and had informal conversations with media people from Germany, Sweden, Japan, South Korea, Ohio, Washington, D.C. and other strange places.
(Sigh) Now it's all over and we have to wait four more years.
The hotels, restaurants, car rental places, TV stations, radio stations, and function rental people (tents, folding chairs, tables, etc) will be looking back on last year as "the good old days".
I do like it overall. The monopoly money though is really disgusting. I know a few people that have made there entire career on political money, They have multiple houses and are worth 10's of millions, Just from getting involved with attack adds and kissing party ass. I should have joined them years ago.
I enjoy the party. I love arguing with strangers with a free glass of wine in my hand. Once I spent a couple of hours with a "lesser" candidate and had a great conversation even after I realized he was not completely sane and believed his own delusions.
it's my 1st time going through this in NH. I think it's ridiculous. The whole thing is crazy.
IMO, primarys should be on the same day all over the US.
It would be logistically impossible for the candidates to effectively campaign if all the primaries were held on the same day. If it were done, NH wouldn't even be visited. All the candidates would focus on the big states (California, New York, Texas, and Florida)
IMHO, we should eliminate the primaries all together and go with how other countries do it - campaigns last anywhere from 12 - 120 days, funded with public money, and no TV advertising.
I like the fact that we get a close-up view of all the candidates, but just the same, their efforts are usually pretty transparent because after the primary, they all leave!
