I have two job offers, one in Concord and the other Manchester. I haven't decided which job to take yet, but I will need to find new doctors once I move. I know Concord and Manchester are relatively close to each other. Which area has better hospitals and doctors?

Thank you.

Concord Hospital (#2 in state, B) gets better marks from both US News Best Hospitals ranking and Leapfrog, than Manchester's Catholic Medical Center (#3 in state, C)

I'd suggest Manchester. Partners Healthcare (Mass General) and CMC are affiliated and will be opening a 300K sq ft facility in Salem with a physician group, satellite locations of Spaulding Rehab and Mass Eye&Eye, and a heart and vascular center. IMHO, being in the Partners network makes it easier to see some of the world's best specialists if needed.

How old are you? Are you in good health or do you have medical issues?

I am in my 40s, and my wife and I do have some medical issues. We are coming from MA and go to Brigham and Women's for all of our medical needs. We would really like to stick with those doctors, if possible. It doesn't look like we will be able to with the Concord job, but will be able to keep the doctors with the Manchester job.

Normally, I would be leaning more to the Concord job, but I am concerned about the healthcare options in the likely event we have to change doctors.

There is really no need to change. Lots of people drive from NH to see doctors in Boston. Heck, my mother travels from Florida back to MA to see her physicians at Mass General!

Yes. Driving distance from Boston, MA to Manchester, NH is approximately 52.6 miles. And the driving distance from Boston, MA to Concord, NH is approximately 67.5 miles. Or, if not driving, I gather there is train and/or bus service between Boston,MA and both Concord & Manchester, NH.

What do your prospective employers offer for health insurance? Is it traditional coverage that lets you choose your own doctors? Or a managed care/HMO/PPO plan that limits you to a specified provider network!

Both are HMOs only. Manchester would cover my doctors in Boston while it doesn't look like Concord does. It looks more likely that I will end up in Concord, but I am still concerned about the medical care. I do prefer the doctors in Boston I am used to.
