My wife and I were looking for a small piece of property to build a cabin on for the family. Was wondering how the area was? Looking to head up there for a look sometime before Christmas. Any feedback appreciated.

As a side note: My wife and I love the principles and idea of the live, free, or die state and look forward to nothing else than keeping it that way!

Littleton is a very busy little town but it should provide you with the opportunity for relative seclusion with the convenience of retail outlets nearby, Whitefield and Dalton are a further drive from Littleton with Whitefield being rather economically depressed. My drives through Dalton suggest its little more than a bedroom community

Littleton is better, Dalton and Whitefield have economic issues overall. Neither of the three towns have reasonable tax rates IMO.

Thanks for information! It would just be land for camping and such. Sounds like a Dalton might be in play. All three are safe communities I assume?

Safe as anything can be these days.. some of us NH folks would have never assumed that a horrific murder like this could have happened in Mount Vernon, until it did

While NH in general is a very safe state, violence can and will happen anywhere in the world.

Dalton is a very rustic Appalachia feeling kind of area, if it is just a camp that may be fine, the housing stock is not very good really. A good thing to keep in mind that many areas of Dalton are more than double the elevation of Littleton, that results in a colder climate zone overall.

Do check on any zoning issues and building codes.

For some areas - one cannot build a cabin in the woods anymore. E911 and Homeland Security mandate a house number now. Some towns have energy codes now. And on and on.

Well that sucks. Heading up tomorrow morning with my wife to walk the property. I will definitely follow up with the town! Thanks for that tip!
