There are other viruses around the world that have orginated in bats, transferred to an intermediary, and then to humans. And many have a high fatality rate. And many if not most have nothing to do with animal husbandry practices. Many/most of those have not spread worldwide. Doesnt mean the viruses cant spread. Go read about the Hendra virus, Ebola, many many others. There are epidemiologists that believe this virus will always be here. Its a zoonoses. Its always going to have a reservoir. Humans aren't going to get rid of it and it will go thru cycles, just like flu, west nile, measles Etc etc etc. the panic and hysteria over this is over the top.
Agree with the above. We aren't going to get rid of this, but we will hopefully develop a vaccine for it. I believe the first Ebola vaccine was just approved in December. Keeping people out of bat-infested caves, which is how Marburg originated in humans, and discouraging the eating of bushmeat, which has precipitated past Ebola outbreaks, would help as well.
Check out the above tomorrow. Today it says 21,157 cases, of which 3,497 are new today.
1441 deaths, of which 175 are new today.
The reason Italy is the hotspot for the virus is the factories in northern Italy are now run by the Chinese making textile and leather goods with using over 100,000 Chinese laborers. Chinese workers from Wuhan and Wenzhou.

If a Vermonter could butt in here - I think there are a lot more cases than we think. Think about patient 1 coming back from Italy - maybe flew into Logan, maybe took Dartmouth Coach back up to the Upper Valley - how many things did he touch on that journey, then how many people touched those same things --- if it's really as contagious as they say, he could have infected hundreds just in New England. There might be a lot of contagious, non-symptomatic people walking around. But we're not going to know, because tests are so scarce that they are only testing sick people.
Agreed. And we haven't seen the fallout from Case 7--the infected DMV employee yet. How many people did s/he come in contact with, exchange paperwork or money with, at a distance well under the recommended 6 ft during that week? There are hundreds of infected people in NH and VT.

The doubters and paranoid people are both getting on my nerves. Shut the "F" up!!!
Doubters: your flat out idiots. Ignoring the guidelines at the risk of your family and friends is the most selfish and reckless act because everyone has a family member in the "at risk" category.
Paranoia: calm down and breath. Simply follow the guidelines. Go for a walk. Stop hogging supplies, put down the toilet paper and the sanitizer.
