Can anyone recommend a company that will work on an existing dug well? I am looking to get it deepened a little to stay in the water table vs spending 10k dollars for a new well/pump and water system.
I have called 5 local well companies so far and all of them only do drilled wells.
Any dirt contractor can dig a hole. But machines can only go down so far.
Here. To bring/take a large (long hole) excavator is about $1,000 per day.
Someone with a backhoe/tractor can dig a hole for much less but not as deep.
If staying for awhile or ever plan to sell. A drilled/artesian is the way to go.
where do I find the long hole excavation company? 1,000 dollars is cheaper then drilling a well, buying a submersible pump and buying the water remediation equipment that a drilled well will probably need
It is the size of the excavator. Larger earth construction companies have larger excavators. The larger the machine - the deeper the hole. As the bucket/hoe is longer on the larger machines.
Ask around. If you see a new home going in ask. Or visit any local lumber yard and ask.
No wonder your well is dry or almost. Any excavation contractor can dig a shallow well but if your intent is to stay where you are, spring for a drilled well (no pun intended).
If you currently have a shallow well, you would not need to dig a really deep well. Cost should be less than $5,000. Now if the well water needs remediation, costs could escalate.

We are near a decent sized body of water so the water table is pretty high. Neighbors with drilled wells tell me they are several hundred feet deep so im not sure about keeping it under 5k. plus the cost of a submersible pump and the remediation costs of radon/arsenic and all the other sh*t that is in NH bedrock.

We have had it tested, it tests very good actually, only issue is PH is low which is common with dug wells, we have a neutralizer for that.
Why not use lake water for everything? You can buy submersible pumps for lake water intake and heated water pipes to prevent freezing in the winter. Culligan makes a system for filtering lake water for household use.
IIRC, drilled wells are about $100/ft by the time the machine hits a good source.
