We use bottled and distilled water to drink because the sediment just looks too unhealthy to drink.

We've been through two systems...first culligan, now A&B out of Meredith. Between installation and upkeep we've spent about 10K on our latest system and as far as softeners go...the salt just leaves a slime on your skin and makes my hair limp and unable to hold a style....it's hopeless.

Here is a tip for blondes...Sally's Beauty Supply sell a purple packet of ION mineral remover for your hair...you have to sit under a dryer with a cap for 20 minutes but it takes of all the metal deposits and leaves your shiny bouncy and uncovers your blonde...every once in awhile I'll go to a friends and do a treatment.

Also, Wink rust remover cleans the orange shower fast without the toxic smell of "iron out" and mr. clean magic eraser works too.

sounds like a lawsuit to me. of course it's important. Your laundry and your clothes are affected at your expense. Can he prove it's healthy? doubt it.

It's an easy fix - he needs to change the filters on the softener. IOW, he needs to do his job.

Wink? awesome can't wait to try it out. Could not stand vomiting for 10 minutes after using Iron Out. Holy CRAP that stuff is acrid!

I'm not blond, but I did have lovely long chestnut brown locks that went down past my back. It used to be my favorite thing I loved about myself. After one full year here, I put it in a pony, gave the scissors to the stylist, requested it go to locks of love for cancer patients, and said buy-bye to my life long lovely locks.

Drab, heavy, nasty hair after about a year in this place. But....I'll grow it out again someday, so for now I'll just pretend I adore my dimples or something.

LOL

know your pain...I've always been the one with "nice hair"...hey...the hair treatment isn't just for blondes...try it some time...you'll **** when you see all of the metal come off your hair, short or not! The wink comes in a small brown bottle...squirt it on and watch the iron disappear in minutes...and you get the keep the scilia in your throat!

I addressed this with the upcoming lease (even at a discounted rate) and he states his water even with a new softener is the same way, and this house he's flipping, same way.

He says it can't be fixed. Surely not everyone is living with this in town? I need to start asking people.

I just had my hair cut and the stylist said she can always tell who is using well water to wash their hair, even with a softener. It's kind of crunchy and she said she can actually feel the minerals. She recommended an in-salon treatment. Maybe I will try the product from Sally's.

Oh yes... I would just do it yourself. The packet only cost $2.79. I bought an old fashioned over the head dryer at goodwill for $2.00, (but you could use a blow dryer). It really works. Some salons just use a clarifying shampoo which is not the same as pulling the iron off with heat. You'll need to get shower cap or pack of disposable caps and a .99 plastic bottle they sell to mix hair color...then you're in business.

ask an expert, not the landlord.

of course it can be corrected...it just takes $$, time and effort.

When in Derry, and before that Candia, I never had a problem with well water or mineral build up in hair. My DD's all have waist length hair - and one of them continually sells it because it grows very fast.

where I currently live in the lakes region, I have iron in the water. Strangely, my neighbors on either side do not have that problem. I installed a water softener that quickly corrected the problem. When I first moved in, (brand new home), the toilet and dishwasher were becoming pink, so I corrected it right away. In the five years I've been here since, there has no longer been a staining problem.
