2400 (including finished basement), cathedral ceilings, 560 gallons of oil per season kept at 67 when were there, 60 when we're not or we're asleep. I'd say we're paying a good bit to heat our ceilings as well.

Electric heating is ALWAYS very expensive (unless the place has great passive solar or insulation), Oil or Gas heat costs depends on efficiency of furnace/boiler and insulation of the home.

My home is a little over 3000 square feet including the basement - at least 3 tank fills per winter if heating solely with oil.

However, I installed a wood pellet stove in the basement last year and have only had 1 tank of oil for the entire year. I burned 4 tons of pellets and the house was much, much warmer than when heating with oil.

Thermostat was kept at 65/day 60/night when using oil. Wore lots of layers and used afghans when watching TV, etc.

You folks are going to hate me $325 for the whole winter season. Electric heat. 1100 sf condo. We are in the middle of the bulding with super insulation. If it's over 30 degrees I can't even leave the heat on, and I need to crack the window open. It helps that each room, even the bathrooms, have their own control box. The highest heat bill I ever paid was $95 in Feb two years ago. I have left the heat OFF when I'm away.....even if it's below zero, and the unit has never dropped below 50 degrees. All the pipes in the condo are back to back in the middle of the building. There are no pipes near the outside walls.

You must be in a newer building. $300 sounds like January to for our place.

1100sqft. We're on a budget payment plan where they take what we spent last year combined in gas and divide it among the months equally. This year we paid $290 a month. It's expensive for our square footage, but our place is old and drafty, so we lose a lot of heat. We also have very small children here, so we keep our place at 68 during the day and 65 at night.

my daughter has free heat at her building. If you prefer to live in a huge building and let everyone else heat you...that's the cheapest way to go.

Looks like A/C bills in south TX are way worse. But winter is more fun.

The building is about 20 years old. We are on a slab, so that may help.

I'm up in the Lakes Region so the building is half empty as the snow-birds are away most of the year. Works out good. You lack some privacy, but at this point in time I don't want to run a house.
