The freaks come out on August nights! The Orb Weavers are back spinning ridiculously large webs spanning from my house to pool. I know they are harmless and actually make some beautiful webs, but man, I walk with my hands in front of my face in the back yard at night!

That is pretty freaky. We were just looking at one this morning outside our porch.

I live in S Jersey too. Has anyone else noticed that these "August Spiders" (as we've named them) are building larger than usual webs this year? I told my mom that it's as if they all went to a class this season to learn how to create webs that span 15+ feet. To that she replied, "Maybe they learned it on a website." ba da bing

Ha...maybe. They are always pretty impressive at my house. This year I'm noticing more spiders than usual. I get these large brown ones that like to hide away in my siding.

We have 4 who build huge webs in our front yard. My 19 yr old son comes home from work after dark and calls me from the sidewalk to tell me to turn the porch light on bc he refuses to walk thru the "spider booby traps"!

Love them, they're beautiful.

Take a single blade of grass and toss it into the web. They will check it out and when they figure out it's not edible, they will actually pull it out of the web and THROW it. It's pretty cool.
