The Atlantic City line is expected to shut down until early 2019. NJ Transit officials are saying the reason is because they are planning on installing PTC installation on the tracks. I personally think it is ridiculous to shut down an entire rail line for at least 6 months. There are no other NJ Transit rail lines being shut down completely. I'm really concerned if the line will actually come back given NJ Transit's long history of neglecting South Jersey's transportation needs.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it permanently shuts down.

If they do shut it down permanently, NJ Transit will be viewed as even more incompetent given the fact that they built the Pennsauken Transit Center several years ago to connect South Jersey's rail lines. At the very least, NJ Transit should give the line to SEPTA if they really longer want to operate the line.

NJT is full of crap. A entire line does not need to be taken out of service to install PTC. When SEPTA was installing PTC (They are like the first railroad along with MetroLink i believe to have it completed on time)....they did not shut one line down. They took some cars out of service and cut some trips to install and test the equipment. NJT who has way more rail cars than SEPTA is taking about four sets that operate on the Atlantic City Line out of service to install this technology. Why not just pick a list of railcars and take them out of service and install them with PTC Equipment. NJT also screwed the Raritan Valley Line with no service to NYP. NJT just would have been better with taking cars from all lines and installing the PTC.

I'm guessing because AC LINE has the least amount of passengers than it was so "EASY" for them to cut it first. I just hope they bring the line back and promote it and give it more frequent service.

Yep. More rusty railroad tracks in the area. Why maintain the rails while it's shut down?
