A friend of mine recently got a job in PA and she is looking around in South Jersey to find a place to live.

She's married with a young son, not quite school age yet. As they are starting out, their budget is kind of limited, but they are looking for at most, a 45 min commute to Philly.

They are looking to rent, not buy. Can anyone recommend some good locations to live? On my list, I had Robbinsville (but may be too far to Philly), Marlton, Medford, Mt. Laurel. Any other recommendations or areas to avoid?

I did some research from the threads - also hearing Collingswood may be a good choice, and Mt. Laurel Crossing in Mt. Laurel.

I looked at the Towers in Cherry Hill, across the CH Mall: http://www.cherryhilltowers.com/ and rents weren't too bad.

It's across the mall and CH retail, and very close to Philly and the bridges, and PATCO. But you'd need a car to PATCO (Ferry Ave. would probably make the most sense) unlike the Collingswood and Haddonfield apt. units where PATCO is a little easier to get to, sometimes walkable from there.

Boltbus also stops in front of the building for the ride up to New York, with a daily AM bus.

Usually its considered an expensive place, but the rents with the promotions have made this affordable. The recession has brought down rents it seems, and the new Arbitare in Voorhees might be bringing some competition in the luxury apartment business in Camden County, to keep rents at Towers a little lower than otherwise.
