There is nothing going on in Clifton( compared to NYC, Hoboken and Jersey City)...sure its a fine place to live but if you are young and single it is not the place you want to be. I'd say Hoboken is the easiest and uptown around 14th st has a bit older crowd than the downtown area. Look to get subleases in the Shipyard or Hudson Tea Building. If you are over 35-40 Hoboken is probably not the best but gives you the best of both worlds with an easy commute to work and an easy commute into Manhattan for a more mature singles scene. Manhattan is great place to live but the reverse commute will not be ideal unless you live in Midtown West. Keep in mind the ferry is on 39th and 12th Ave. There are NY Waterway buses that run throughout the city but that all adds to your commute time. Plus the ferry is gonna run you about $70 a week. Just my thoughts...

You are right about Clifton, except for the various bars along Van Houten Avenue which is about 2 miles from Korman. If you have a lot of money, Korman in Clifton or Hoboken is best, along with Englewood. If your on a budget, a high-rise in either Jersey City or Hackensack are good.
