I am moving to another condo in NYC as per job opportunity during the week. Currently I own a Vehicle registered in the state of New Jersey and a home in New Jersey.
I will not be driving in NYC and only using Public Transportation.
However, on the weekends I will be in my home in NJ, keeping my vehicle there, and of course driving there.
Can I keep my vehicle registered in NJ and auto insurance in NJ as my vehicle will never be in NYC.
I am inclined to say that you can keep your License, registration and insurance without changing it. I would keep listing NJ as your primary residence for all concerned as well.
My great Aunt lived in the city and kept her car registerd and insured in West Orange at my great-grandparents house, but I believe she was a resident of NJ the entire time. She never changed over from her parents house. That was in the 1970s so things have changed. As I understand the insurance is based on where the car is garaged the majority of the time. Check with your current insurance company or agent.
The title of this thread is very unhelpful when considering the actual question being asked.
If you legally own the residence in NJ, you can keep the car registered and insured there. If you were moving and your only legal residence was now the NY condo, it would be illegal to keep your old credentials past 60 days.

Happy Thanksgiving week!
