Are you from the west Coast and moved to the East Coast and what is your experience like?

I moved from Long Island to North Jersey specifically Hudson County 5 yrs ago.

Other than corrupted state government, high property taxes, friday/weekend shore traffic on the parkway, I love it here!

- Low gas prices
- Me personally am within an hours reach of NYC, the Shore, the wilderness, and a place to go snowboarding
- Variety of different great quality ethnic foods available
- 24 hr diners lol

That's all I can think of right now 6 in the morning lol but yeah its a great place if you have the job to afford it.

I grew up in Montana and moved to NJ from San Diego about 3 years ago. My husband is from So Cal.

We hate it here and are moving back west as soon as we can (probably in 2 years.) I know everywhere has good and bad eggs, but we miss the laid back lifestyle and friendly demeanor of folks in San Diego.

It HAS been nice having all 4 seasons, I missed that in California.

Send me a PAN if you have specific questions.

If we are comparing life in NJ with life in California, the first thing that comes to mind is the relatively low threat of earthquakes in NJ, as compared to a significant threat of earthquakes in many areas of CA.

Then, we have those lovely seasonal wildfires in CA, followed in most cases by mudslides. You will rarely--if ever--see that type of problem in NJ.

Droughts? California wins--hands down--as long as you consider chronic water shortages in some areas to be desirable!

Traffic? Sure, we have some notoriously bad traffic jams on the Garden State Parkway on summer weekends, but compared to the daily traffic jams on LA-area freeways...

Are our property taxes higher than those of California? Undoubtedly.
However, NJ is actually in somewhat better financial shape than CA, and also has better elementary and high schools--overall.

I will grant you that most of California has much better weather than NJ, but with that exception, I prefer NJ.

Cali > NJ, but I love it in NJ, born and raised and just bought a house to set my own roots down.
