This is the first time I'm living in a house since moving out of my parents. I lived in apartments for the last 12 years and I am unfamiliar with several house-type maintenance things.

Anyway the house is 1,018sq ft. The furnace was serviced by the oil company this August. It already had 100gallons in it and I ordered 300 gallons. They recommended 200 when I called and I figured I'd get 100 more than they recommended. I think it holds 500 gallons. So I have 400 gallons total.

I guess my question is am I going to have to order more oil sometime later in the year? How much oil do you all go through? I've been reading up in other forums and most people have 1600sqft homes and they go through 600g of oil but I have a smaller home so I assume I'll go through less? How do I know when to get more?

I can't really find anything that tells me how many gallons that are in there....or maybe I'm looking at the wrong places.........

it depends on how well insulated the home, if you have any draft pockets. I would venture to say you would most likely need to fill up again the end of December and once more sometime in Feb or March.

Our oil company came out twice during the year. Once before the heating season and again mid winter. You don't need to call them to deliver, unless you have run out of oil. I had that happen once in the 17 years I lived in my NJ house. You may want to varify with them what their schedule is to check your oil.
