SAFE areas to live in if my salary is between $30 to $40K/year that has at least "some" public transportation where I'll be accepted and with friendly people who won't judge me by the car I drive or the non-designer clothes I may wear?
Also be nice if there were jobs not too far away too
I'll be renting a 1 bedroom or a studio apartment and perhaps sharing as a middle 40's straight single man.
There are a few dozen potential places here. You're going to have to share a place in most of them, though. Tell us more about what your needs are. Where will you be working? How do you want to commute? How long of a commute are you willing to tolerate or would you have ideally? Are you in NJ somewhere already or looking to make a long-distance move here?
Really the more info you can share, the easier it is for people to make suggestions. As of right now people don't have much to go on to help you.

I'm already in NJ and In-between jobs.
I'm willing to do up to 1 - 1.5 hour commute.
I'm in the accounting support field.
So I'd like to know what my options are and that'll dictate where to seek a job, etc...
The Middlesex County towns regarese mentioned would work--South Amboy would work too. Your commute from SR or OB might be a little longer than you'd want (I'm assuming you'd be looking to work in NYC). Many people in Parlin and Sayreville use the South Amboy train station.

Reason: clarification
North, Central , Shore?? that about sums up the whole state(except extreme south jersey..How about where not to live....Camden and Newark, IMO I would steer clear of.
Umm kelforn/njguy, why two screennames for the same person? I saw njguy's post before it was edited, and kelforn's following post is the same.
Yes, that was my brother - we use the same computer but I was logged in and he posted under mine by mistake.
I think I'm going to ask the moderator to eliminate our accounts and have just one name which my brothers and myself will use. I'm not trying to deceive anyone in here that's for sure.
Sorry for the "mixup".
