It looked like a scene from the Alfred Hitchcock bird movie. My whole yard and all the trees were filled with black birds. Does anyone know what kind of birds they are? I live in Colonia which is central NJ and never saw anything like that before.

Yeah, they were probably setting up for the flight south. They were probably Brewer's Blackbirds. We get a lot of these colonies of birds showing up around the open fields and on power lines where they can forage on the ground for seeds, berries, etc. before the long flight south.
For anyone interested, you can find a full listing of birds found here in New Jersey in this Wiki article.

I had them too. I've seen it before & I do think they are flying south for the winter. Wish I could join them. LOL
I oversee a few radio and TV towers and sometimes they come over for a "rest stop", usually gone in a few hours unless they have overnight reservations.
An alarm went off while we were getting ready for Good Friday last week. The alarm company said that a zone was activated first in our basement and then upstairs. I met the police at our home and they went in to check. They found a large black bird in one of the bedrooms upstairs. There is no way the bird could have gotten in via a window or crack or chiminey. We had an animal control specialist take it out and he could not find any way it got in. This is so strange. In 30 years we have never had a bird in our home. What do you all think?

I don't know. A bird got into your house. It's not exactly a home invasion. If you're "Scared in Wisconsin", why are you posting here?
