Parking is every bit as bad as you have heard and unfortunately there really isn't a solution. Only thing you can do is pay for a spot in a lot... or drive around pulling your hair out of your head for hours on end until you finally say "F-THIS" and park illegally which almost guarantees you a ticket, sometimes 2 or 3. It's not bad if you only drive once in a while but if you have to do it everyday, like I did, it gets to you after a while.
It's definitely not a rumor, parking is terrible especially the closer you are to Washington or downtown. Save yourself the headache and factor a parking lot into your housing budget when looking for apartments.
Rent an apartment with parking spaces you can rent or comes with spots. Or you can rent a parking spot, expect near NYC or NYC prices for prime spots ($250-300/mo)
oh before my brother bought, he rented a couple of years. his building had parking that he paid monthly for. i think it was like 200 a month but im not sure.
So I'm considering a move to Hoboken... is parking as bad as people say it is? If so, what are some of the solutions to the parking problem?
it's worse than people say it is because honestly, if you drive somewhere for work, and return to hoboken after 6pm, you could be driving around for anywhere from 10-90 minutes looking for a spot. people don't believe it...but it's true. I've spent 30-45 minutes looking for a spot more times than I can count.
look into Hertz Connect if you don't need a car 100% of the time. They have cars parked around town, and you can pick them up and go (just like Zipcar).
If you bring a car and can afford the $200/month for a spot...that's really the only way to go unless you don't mind paying a few parking tickets per year and wasting a lot of time and gas driving around looking.
there's little need for a car there unless you need it for work.

$200 is the going rate. the city garages might be $150 or $175. $30,000 for a deeded parking space is typical.

I agree, most people I know pay between $175 to $250. The tough part is that there's not a whole lot of garages so sometimes you end up having to go with what's in walking distance or what has an open spot available not what's cheapest.

Parking is worse than they say. I would never live here without a space in a garage.
