Hi! I'm a 28 year old single male attorney from Center City Philadelphia, and I just took a job in Warren, New Jersey. I could really use some suggestions as to where to live in North Jersey, specifically for a single guy who enjoys good restaurants, lively nightlife, etc... As much as I'd love to live in Hoboken or Jersey City- they're out of the question, since I'm not really interested in a 40 minute drive to work (my office is unfortunately not within a walkable distance from the train station in Warren). I noticed a lot of people suggesting Morristown, but I'm finding that rent is totally obscene there ($1700+ for a 1BR in the so-called "downtown" apartment buildings? Are they serious?) Anyone have any suggestions for towns/cities, and if so, recommendations for apartment buildings in those places? Your help is greatly appreciated!

It certainly seems that way! I guess I have to face facts and suck it up on the increased rent! Any suggestions as to where's a good place to live for someone in my situation, setting aside my cost complaints?

Driving to Warren from Hoboken or Downtown Jersey City would be about 35 minutes without traffic -- shouldn't be more than 50 even with moderate/high traffic.

Morristown is also a good option. All 3 places are between $1,300 and $1,800 for a one bedroom apt.

Not sure what the drive to Warren would be, but Lambertville puts you in immediate proximity to New Hope.

Westfield. It's not quite Hoboken, but it's a nice town with restaurants, a little nightlife, and it's a much better commute for you. Won't be as expensive as Hoboken either.

I'd go with Randolph, Parsippany, Boonton, Denville, and Rockaway. Affordable, good restaurants, some night life and 40 mins way from the city.

You can try all those other places or just suck up the higher rent and move to Morristown. For a single guy there is no other place commutable to Warren that even comes close.

New Brunswick isn't too far from Warren - about 20 mins south - and it's a college town with lots of nice restaurants & bars. I'm sure rents would be better than Mo'town and Hoboken too

I agree with other posters. I would suggest either Morristown or Hoboken. My D, a single professional who is the same age as you, works in Summit but lives in Hoboken, her 1BR rent is over $2000. That's just the reality of North Jersey/NYC area. She doesn't like college towns as much as she finds the demographics who like to go out too young.
