The application fee makes this a lottery.

I give the state of Maine $15 every year for a chance to be chosen to receive a moose permit. No difference than paying to apply for a chance at a job. Wonder what the chances are for a NJ job vs a moose permit?

The state could raise a ton of money by extending this lottery strategy to so many other opportunities or desired exceptions. lottery for one year of free travel on the parkway. lottery for exemption from property tax for one quarter and so on. Lottery for one free fishing license for one year.

The potential exists for the state and municipalities to generate a ton of money thru lottery gambling.

This job application fee does smell of abuse.

Abuse? Why? What about schools that have application fees?

I'm sure the state wouldn't be charging it if it was illegal to do so.

I think it's good. I don't think the taxpayers should have to pay for staff to screen billions of resumes. People would just send their resume to every job if it was free, especially since it's all online. How many jobs could someone be truly qualified for?

Anyway, it's for a good cause right, more money to NJ.

Government always hire in bad time. They have to expand to "help" you.

My only apprehensions about working for the state is that it would obviously restrict where I live, and it wouldn't have the growth potential of a similar job in the private sector
#1 yeah, you do.

#2 apparently you are in the minority in this one. the general consensus is being a state employee is puppies and rainbows and unicorns and WAY better than any private sector job. if you do end up getting a position though, don't expect a raise for at least 5 years and watch your take home get stripped via reduced bennies.
