Another question from the Floridian, here:

I love the older NJ houses I seen online. Is it typically difficult to insulate an old house from the winter weather? All of the houses down here in FL are concrete block ranch-style houses, so I have no way of knowing. Braving the winter will be a challenge for us, even if our house stays warm. If it doesn't, that would be a big problem.

Thanks!!!

make sure the house is well insulated, check for air pockets in between doors and windows and light switch plates. put plastic on your windows on the inside. there are things you can buy to slip under the doors where cold air typically gets in. if there are window air conditioners, remove them for the winter and keep the window closed and covered...
good luck!

I have an old craftmans style home built in the 1930 or 40's. Believe me its not insulated these old homes some where build like ****!!! The heating build with radiators steam can cost a lot. We bought a wood stove with a blower and it really helps with the cost of heating. Beware!!!!!

If you have abestes shingles this is difficult to do on the outside too. You then have to gut the inside walls and put the insulation which is not cheap. Plaster walls are hard to insulate.
