You live in NJ (me too) and it took you how long to figure this out?

Ringwood doesn't have any traffic lights, and skyline drive is one of 2 major ways out of the town.

I get a letter in the mail from the vol. fire dept. and the police dept. every year. I cut each group a 50 check. U are aware that the PBA gives scholarships to the kids in high school, sponsors baseball teams, Christmas parties for the handicapped and so forth. I don't take it that they are bullying or robbing me. I'm actually glad they take the time and effort to help children on thier time off. If I didn't want to donate I would just throw the letters in the garbage. This is the first time in my life that I heard u must sign this form with your name and address if u don't donate. If it did indeed happen I would have told the volunteer to go F himself.

As has been noted by others, Ann, yeah, these people are probably part of a scam. My wife and I had a really hard time getting rid of them when we first moved to NJ. Hanging up wouldn't do it ... they'd call back immediately. They were threatening and super-aggressive. We wound up changing our unpublished phone number three times, but they always got the new number in a matter of two months.

We finally solved it by ditching the home phone, and we've been happily non-harassed since, just using our cell phones, which have area codes from another state. We also saved ourselves about $50/month by getting rid of the landline service.

Good luck to you. These people are relentless!

Same here. Police, Fire and EMS all send requests in the mail, and I give to each annually ... but not more.

Don't stand in the middle of a busy intersection with fire boots asking for donations and backing up traffic. Stupid & dangerous.

i dont really appreciate that tactic either. i think they should put something in the mail that doesnt just include a piece of paper to fill out for a donation, but also a pitch for why i should donate.

It's like Serpico all over again. They would not get away with that in the city anymore. They should pass a state law in New Jersey prohibiting any local police or fire force from panhandling around people's places of residence when they should be patrolling the town or fighting a fire.

So this is the real reason crime is on the rise everywhere, and more people are dying in fires. Make a note of this to Christie, he will jump on it.

i dont need volunteers. id rather pay for regular service. im guessing the fact that they are volunteers probably makes them feel more entitled to people handing them money. its kind of funny that people start up a volunteer organization and all the sudden they are entitled to people's money without needing to justify their value.

the cops are on our payroll and still threatening us to get donations. thats a big problem.
