Our cities are in crisis, and it’s time for the governor, state attorney general, mayors and legislators to address it — with words and action and money. With urgency.

Actually only Newark and Irvington have the serious issues and are climbing or not stable. But Governor needs to act....the cities should not be the place to fear and now the crime is seeping into the burbs...

Actually, Plainfield logged its ninth homicide for 2011 this week. When you consider the size of that city, this is a very high homicide rate:

come on now. you haven't figured it out yet. the crime isn't going to go down until it's election time when these people are trying to get reelected and use the decrease in crime as a way of getting votes. happens all the time. this has been going on forever. if newark suddenly has a serious decrease in crime for how many years straight then you know something is wrong because that's just unheard of. newark has been a dump for almost 45 years. same thing for trenton, camden and all the other cities in jersey. it's just unheard of. i can't imagine newark becoming like brooklyn and turning into a hipster town.

The key is increased law enforcement and a bigger and better correctional system. Violent crime will drop when the negative consequences of engaging in such crime increases.

Is there a spillage? like if a town has a high crime does it spill over to nearby cities?

I assume it does, so even if your city isnt listed you should still be disturbed by the occurrence.
