Looking to zero in on a town to live in...Looking to purchase a home in the $350-$400k. Been focusing on Union Beach, Keyport, South Amboy, Old Bridge...Any insight on these areas would be helpful....Thanks!

It depends on where... Keyport and Union Beach aren't particularly nice. South Amboy and Old Bridge have some nice sections.

I'm also sending you a PM.

IMO, you can find a nice house in any of those towns but there are some parts in all of them that are undesirable. Will you be working going north over the bridge or is that not a factor? Do you have children that will going to school there? maybe say here what's important to you and we can answer what would the best town would be.

I work in Jersey city, my wife in Manhattan..so commuting is a factor...we don't plan on having kids for another year or so. This will be my first home purchase....Just want to buy in a "decent to good" area. Hazlet seems very good but i'm intrigued by union beach...just wondering if union beach has made progress over the years or if its always been what it is now..

South Amboy, being the farthest north, would be the easiest commute.

thanks....putting the commute aside, how do those areas stack up...between south amboy, union beach, keyport....as far as schools, type of people living in the community, etc. Are they basically the same or does one stand out as being better?

I think South Amboy is the best of the three, though YMMV. The city is in the midst of a mini-renaissance with waterfront homes and new shops/storefronts downtown. It is really cute.

Not sure about schools, though I don't think either UB or Keyport has its own district. South Amboy is a very small district of its own.

Out of those choices I would say to choose Old Bridge or South Amboy but Old Bridge first. I say South Amboy second because of LIGHTHOUSE BAY but the prices are a little higher, in the $500K range for a condo. Old Bridge has a lot of choices in the condo market in your price range. Also you will not feel like you are in a bad area because in that price range you can have your choosings of the area. GOOD LUCK WITH THE SEARCH!!

union beach is white trash, old bridge is a nice place to live and is not far from the beach.

That is about it.

Its your choice between whatever and whatever.

There are much nicer places between JC and where you want to live

I live in a very disirable section of Old Bridge and my advice would be choose none of those towns and buy a small ranch in Marlboro, or Manalapan. Even if your home is a fixer upper, it would still be a better investments because it's decent schools in Old Bridge, vs. excellent schools in Marlboro. Either way your taxes on a resale are comparable. Good luck.
