My husband and I want to buy a home in river vale. We are jewish and dont want our kids to be the only jewish ones in school and to have some jewish friends. I cant find info on this anywhere. I know there is no temple in the town. Does this mean there are no jewish people there?
Not sure of exact percentages or what not but from when I was growing up in the area there was an average Jewish population in RV. Not huge but your kids wouldn't be outcasted by any means just cause they're Jewish. That kinda stuff isn't really much of a concern of most people, just being good neighbors! As for the lack of a temple, that's not uncommon. The town I grew up in didn't have on but had a significant Jewish population. The towns in Bergen County are so small, not every town needs one of everything. Plenty of neighboring towns have temples. There's a rather large one just 5 minutes from RV on S*****lenburgh Rd in Closter.
Why not consider Woodcliff Lake or Fair Lawn? They'd fit in better in those towns than River Vale(since they have a higher percentage of Jews).
True, even neighboring Old Tappan would be good. But I see no problem with River Vale for a Jewish family. Really, any town in Bergen County for the most part would be good.
