Irene's winds were measured at 75mph--exactly one mile an hour above the minimum for a storm to be classified as a hurricane. For that reason alone, she could hardly have been worse than Katrina. There's also the little nagging problem of geography: most of New Orleans happens to be located below sea level.

Had Irene come north over the open ocean, rather than hugging the coastline, things could possibly have been worse. But, of course, that didn't happen.

Only in the minds of Obama political stratigists looking to run against GWB in 2012 is Katrina comparable to Irene.

my power went out last night from about 4:40am - 8:40am. so for me, last night (this morning) was worse than both irene and katrina!
