Hi,

Thinking about moving from NY to NJ, specifically Journal City, in order to save some money to buy something further down the road. Is this area a safe place for a black female professional? Journal City seems to be a very convenient area from which to commute into midtown, Manhattan. The prices seem too tempting to be true, for instance I recently saw a 2 bedroom for less than 1000 dollars. This would definitely allow me to save significantly. Are these listings scams?

I don't know much about the area since I moved here from Europe about a year ago so any comment would be helpful. It would be great to get some insight about other areas to rent as well.

Its rundown , but its safe....but don't go down to far... Then it becomes unsafe , I honestly don't see these low prices staying low for long....maybe another decade or too....

Nex is right. You have to be sure that the places you're seeing in advertisements are indeed in Journal Square. Because Journal Square
has become somewhat popular recently, some landlords and management companies will advertise properties as being in Journal Square, when in fact they may be in a different neighborhood nearby. If the adverts you are looking at include address information, look them up on Google Maps. I'd say if the place is south of Montgomery Street, it's pretty far from the train station and possibly in a high-crime area. I'd be skeptical of something advertising $1000 for a 2 bedroom. That's well below average.
