How would you guys compare Edgewater to say Jersey City or Hoboken? Is EW more suburbish and calm compared to JC and Hoboken?
Edgewater is more condos/apts and shopping plazas, very nice area though not much in terms of night life but some real good restaurants too. Hoboken is probably what you are looking for, it is a small Manhattan in NJ, with tons of bars and a big scene for the younger crowd. Downtown Jersey City is nothing like either even though people lump it in together because they're close. Downtown has mostly commuters and quieter type scene. It is NOTHING like Hoboken. The rest of the of Jersey City ranges from VERY dangerous to dumpy to not bad and liveable. If you lived in the other areas of JC besides the square mile that is Downtown I HIGHLY doubt you' d be happy especially coming from San Diego.
well, the best place for you to live would be hoboken. but if you want to keep it under $2k with parking, you will need at least one roommate and you may need to pay a few hundred a month for a spot in the buildings lot.
Thanks guys. Maybe I should consider Edgewater, seems like it might be a bit cheaper, yet its still very close to NYC and even Hoboken. Might make the day to day life a bit easier, and cheaper?
Try Jersey City, Bayone, Hoboken, Edgewater, Weehaken all have easy access to the city. Fort Lee is nice, though you will have to take the bus into Washington Heights and then take the subway down all the way to Midtown.
Hoboken or Dowtown Jersey City. Edgewater is going to be boring if you want nightlife. Find a condo in Hoboken in a building with parking. it's doable. Street parking is rough, depending on your hours. The later you get back into Hoboken, the harder it is.
Finding a roomate would be a fantastic way to cut costs.
